We are Intrepid

We are Intrepid

The world needs more Intrepid people:

Do you dream of inspiring travellers and helping them fall in love with their destination by immersing them in your local culture and exposing them to real life experiences? Being a Mountain Guide with Intrepid, you will do just that — while safely leading travellers through some of Tanzania’s most iconic and challenging mountain environments.

Every day will be different, but every day you will:

  • Deliver outstanding customer service and bring each itinerary to life — from multi-day mountain treks to summit experiences, you’ll create meaningful, unforgettable moments for our travellers

  • Ensure the health, safety and overall wellbeing of your travellers at all times, with a strong focus on altitude awareness, physical readiness and group care, remaining calm, professional and solutions-focused when challenges arise

  • Lead and manage mountain trips in line with Intrepid and PEAK DMC standards, following itineraries, managing group logistics and completing all required administrative duties

  • Be the main point of contact for travellers throughout the trip, building trust and rapport with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds

  • Manage trip budgets responsibly, including handling and accounting for cash and expenses

  • Share your passion for Tanzania’s mountains, responsible adventure travel and Intrepid’s immersive, purpose-led style of travel

To be considered you must have:

  • Diploma in Tour Guiding and Operations

  • Level 2 Senior First Aid Certificate (must be completed prior to commencement)

  • Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) training

  • Demonstrated experience leading and engaging diverse groups, with excellent English communication skills

  • Passion for Intrepid-style adventure travel, with relevant mountain guiding or PEAK DMC operational experience

  • Strong customer service, leadership and independent decision-making skills

  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities

  • Experience managing budgets and handling large sums of money

  • Basic computer skills, including email, Word and Excel

  • High levels of physical fitness and resilience for long, mentally and physically demanding working conditions

  • A positive, flexible attitude and a good sense of humour

  • Travel industry experience, accredited training or local language skills considered an advantage

What you need to know:

  • This is a freelance agreement role. It offers flexibility in how you work, but requires strong availability during peak mountain trekking seasons in Tanzania, which often align with favourable climbing conditions and international travel demand

  • We are recruiting Mountain Guides now, with training and onboarding scheduled for March 2026

  • This role is physically and mentally demanding, with long days, altitude exposure and challenging environments — strong fitness, resilience and preparation are essential

  • You’ll need to be comfortable spending extended periods away from home, as some mountain expeditions can run for multiple weeks

  • You’ll be leading trips across Tanzania’s mountain regions, sharing landscapes, cultures and Intrepid Group’s responsible travel philosophy with travellers from around the world. You can view example itineraries at: www.intrepidtravel.com
