At Intrepid, we invite you to share in the uncommon – the people, the culture, and the community. Right now, our Galapagos operations are looking for a Deputy Operations Manager to help deliver unforgettable travel experiences! 

The Galapagos Deputy Operations Manager (DOM) provides strategic, administrative, and operational support to the Operations Manager (OM), ensuring the efficient, safe, and profitable running of all Intrepid groups, individual travelers, and external clients in Ecuador. 

This position plays a critical leadership role in managing and optimizing day-to-day operations, including hiring, training, and overseeing all leaders, local guides, Galapagos guides, and Customer Service staff. The DOM also serves as the main point of contact for all Galapagos guides. 

 

The DOM reports to the Operations Manager on the implementation of all Intrepid safety standards, Responsible Travel policies, and feedback targets. They take an active role in ensuring trip quality, resolving on-the-ground issues, and managing complaints and investigations, serving as a key contact for Intrepid. 

The DOM also assists with leader and guide scheduling, oversees adherence to Intrepid’s global standards including safety, crisis management, and responsible travel—and ensures compliance with external partner requirements. 

 

This is a full-time permanent position that will operate onsite based in Santa Cruz, Galapagos, Ecuador.  

 

Some of the experience you’ll bring with you will include: 

  • Relevant tourism qualification desirable  

  • Extensive travel experience in the region and a passion for travel 

  • Travel industry work experience in Ecuador and Galapagos, particularly as a Group Leader. 

  • Specific Destination knowledge of Galapagos operations 

  • Management coaching / training experience desirable 

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) in both English and Spanish  

  • Experience in administrative tasks, using Microsoft Word and Excel  

  • Good communicator and skills to work with ship operators and suppliers
